What is a SMB Type RF Connector
Our SMB (Subminiature Type B) type rf connectors have an impedance of 50Ω with a snap-on coupling method. Mainly used in internal devices, PCBs, board to board mounting. These connectors have a good performance up to 4GHz, provides a quick and reliable connection for high density applications.
Some SMB type RF connectors are available for purchase from Digi-Key.

Trivia: About Cables
- JIS Standard
- Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) compliant cables. The higher the number of the part number, the thicker the cable. "D: 50Ω" and "C: 75Ω" represent the impedance.
- MIL Standard
- Compliant with US military standards for cables. Begins with the initials "RG" and is also called Mil-Spec.
- Micro Coaxial Cables
- Micro coaxial cables for attaching to miniature RF connectors such as U.FL.
- Semi-flexible
- Shape memory coaxial cables can be bent to a certain degree but have high shielding and low loss (attenuation).
Not applicable to the SMB connector lineup.
- Semi-rigid
- Coaxial cables with higher shielding and less attenuation than semi-flexible cables using a seamless metal tube.
Not applicable to the SMB connector lineup.
SMB Type RF Connector Features
Compact Size
Since these connectors are even smaller than SMA connectors, they enable high-density connections in a small space for wiring in equipment and for mounting between subassemblies and devices that make up the equipment.
Easy Coupling Between Connectors
Compared to the threaded coupling method, the snap-on coupling method makes coupling easier between connectors. Since connectors can be connected by simply snapping them together, it is suitable for uses in applications where space is limited.
High Frequency
We have a lineup of products that can be used in the high-frequency band from DC to 4 GHz.

SMB Type RF Connector FAQ
Q
What is the difference between SMA and SMB connectors?
A
SMB connectors are slightly smaller than SMA connectors (Subminiature Type-A). Threaded coupling is more vibration resistant and less prone to disconnection. Snap-on coupling method requires less effort and is easier to use in small spaces. MCX and MMCX connectors are also small connectors that use the snap-on coupling method.

Q
The shape of the contact seems to differ from those of other connectors.
A
Typically, male contacts are used for plugs, and female ones are used for jacks, so the contacts mated to each other when connected. SMB connectors have the contacts reversed from usual, with female contacts as plugs and male as jacks. Reverse Polarity SMA connectors as well.
Q
There seems to be a product with a plug for a 1.5D–2V cable that has a different shape from the coupling part. What is the difference?
A
The SMB plug coupling part is usually a snap-on type. For those who do not want the abrasion to spread when the plug and jack are connected, a type with a cover attached to the plug coupling part is available.
