What is a MCX Type RF Connector
MCX (Micro Coaxial Connectors) are small snap-on type rf connectors approximately 30% smaller than SMB type, enabling compact, space-saving mounting. They are used in communication systems, GPS, medical equipment, and vehicle antennas.
Some MCX,MMCX type RF connectors are available for purchase from Digi-Key.
Product List
Cables Suitable for MCX Type RF Connectors
MIL Standard
No cables with MCX connectors are available in stock.
Trivia: About Cables
- MIL Standard
- Compliant with US military standards for cables. Begins with the initials "RG" and is also called Mil-Spec.
MCX Type RF Connector Features
Compact size
Since this connector is smaller than the SMB connector, high-density mounting can be achieved in a small space, not only for wiring in equipment but also for connection between subassemblies that make up the equipment and between equipment.
Coupling Method
Compared to the threaded coupling method, the snap-on coupling method is used, making connection easier. Since the connectors can be coupled by simply pushing the connectors together, this method is suitable for locations where tightening screws is difficult and space is limited.
Impedance
MCX connectors are also available in 75 Ω as well. MCX 75 Ω connectors are recommended for video, broadcasting, home appliances, and factory automation equipment with lower operating frequency bands.
MCX Type RF Connector Applications
Communication systems, GPS, medical equipment, automotive antennas, etc.

MCX Type RF Connector FAQ
Q
What is the difference between MCX connectors and MMCX connectors?
A
MMCX connectors are even smaller than MCX connectors. It can be mounted on devices that require smaller space and weight savings.
Q
What is the difference between 50 Ω and 75 Ω connectors?
A
Compared to 50 Ω connectors, 75 Ω connectors are used less frequently at high frequencies, and because of their lower-frequency bandwidth, they are often used in video, broadcasting, home appliances, and factory automation equipment.
Q
In what kinds of situations are they mainly used?
A
They are used in various applications such as communication systems, GPS, medical equipment, and vehicle antennas.
