What is a N Type RF Connector
N (Type-Navy) type rf connectors have good frequency characteristics (DC to 12GHz) and are used in a wide range of radio communication equipment, mainly in the UHF band. The relatively large body with an impedance of 50Ω and threaded coupling method ensures reliable coupling. 75Ω N type rf connectors are also available, but they are in a different category and cannot be mated with the 50Ω N type rf connectors.

Trivia: The Origin of N
- The connector is generally called Type-Navy, but it was invented in the 1940s by Paul Neal of Bell Laboratories in the US, and the name was taken from Neal's initials. It is sometimes called the Nancy connector to ensure the M connector is clear.
Trivia: UHF Band
- UHF (Ultra High Frequency): Ultra High Frequency refers to radio waves between 300 MHz and 3 GHz. For example, the UHF band for television is 470–770 MHz, and the UHF band for RF-ID is 860–960 MHz. (Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications)

- MIL Standard
- Compliant with US military standards for cables. Begins with the initials "RG" and is also called Mil-Spec.
- Micro Coaxial Cables
- Micro coaxial cables for attaching to miniature RF connectors such as U.FL.
- Semi-flexible
- Shape memory coaxial cables can be bent to a certain degree but have high shielding and low loss (attenuation).
- Semi-rigid
- A coaxial cable that uses a seamless metal tube to achieve higher shielding and less attenuation than semi-flexible cables.
N Type RF Connector Features
Large Size
Relatively large in size among coaxial connectors. The large connector size makes it possible to connect to thick coaxial cables. Because of their excellent weather resistance, they are often used outdoors at mobile base stations.
Trivia: Coaxial Cable Thickness
- The thicker the coaxial cable, the less flexible it is, but the better the characteristics with less noise and loss. Usually, the longer the cable, the worse the characteristics, so the tendency is to select thicker cables.

Can the 50Ω and 75Ω types be combined?
A
No. Although 50Ω type N connectors are available for 75Ω cables, they cannot be combined with 75Ω type N connectors.
Q
Is there a way to make the cable assembly more inexpensive?
A
We have connectors with a crimp-type cable attachment. Although a crimping tool is required for the assembly, it is lighter and less expensive than the clamping type connectors. You do not need to purchase crimping tools if you request us to process the cable assembly.

Are any products with a stronger connection between the connector and the cable?
A
Although slightly more expensive than the crimp type mentioned above, the clamping type is a more robust connection method. Among the clamping types, the "Z" series, which uses the triple chuck method, has a clamping nut that bites into the cable's outer sheath, making it a more difficult connection method. The "X" series, in which the connector is soldered to the cable's outer conductor, requires more processing time but is more popular because of its hard-to-disconnect wiring method.
Q
When measuring, it is troublesome to use screws to join connectors. Is there any product that allows easy insertion and removal of connectors?
A
Quick adaptors that allow push-pull connection and disconnection without screw connection are handy to improve efficiency at measurement sites. The key is to insert and remove them straight, not at an angle.

What is a flare tool?
A
A flaring tool is used to flare the cable sheath (outer sheath) to widen it on a wrapper. This tool is not necessary for standard coaxial cables.
For EM cables, which use non-halogen flame-retardant PE for the sheath outer sheath and are hard, it is not easy to install connectors unless they are spread out with a flaring tool.
